Waiting Upon the Lord

“Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14) AMP

Are you waiting for something big from God? Something you’ve been praying about for a long time? Or, maybe a short time, and the answer hasn’t yet come?
I am. And I know others who are doing the same. You may be praying for the salvation of friends and family members, a new job, healing, the right husband, the right wife, guidance and direction, wisdom, resources for ministry, a more loving marriage, your children, or a breakthrough in your finances. Whatever you’re praying for, it’s tough to wait on the Lord, isn’t it?
I’m waiting on the Lord right now for something to come through this week that I believe may not happen because of a possible mistake I made. God made all the arrangements, but because of what I did, now it may not happen.
But the Lord is telling me to wait on Him and trust Him to act on my behalf. Stop worrying and be confident that He has heard my prayers and will answer my prayers according to His will and based on His perfect plan for my life. Such an awesome message, but oh so hard to do.
As we wait on the Lord, always remind Him of His promises as we pray (Isaiah 62:6). When our prayers are based on His promises, we can be sure we will receive an answer (Psalm 145:13b; 1 John 5:14-15).
Are you waiting on the Lord for something big? If so, trust that He’s listening, and that He will answer you in His perfect timing.
Let me know if you’re waiting on God for something special and how you’re handling it. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!

  1. Hi Judith,

I've seen you comment on several blogs I read and I thought I would visit your's; I'm glad today is that day.

As I read this post, I thought about Psalm 138:8 in which David writes, "The Lord will accomplish what concerns me..."

I think we all experience a kind of anticipation as we wait for God to answer our prayers.

I'm launching a business for the first time in my life and initially there was anxiety. But now, I feel a deep sense of peace and though I can't explain it, I'm fully trusting that God will accomplish what concerns me. I'm looking at Jehovah Jireh and believing that the provisions have been met for me.

Like you, I wait expecting the Lord to show up.

    Blessings and peace.

  2. Thank you so much MTJ! Funny that you should mention Psalm 138:8. That verse also crossed my mind this morning. The Holy Spirit truly works in and through His people. I wish you the best with your new business. Waiting on the Lord is truly a challenge for me. I'm a very impatient person by nature. But I have no choice but wait on Him. And waiting on God is truly the best thing to do!

Thank you for visiting my blog. Feel free to stop by anytime. I will visit your blog as well. Take care.

  4. It's so hard to be patient-- but if God wants whatever you're waiting for to happen, no mistake of yours is going to hinder that.

  6. Greetings Judith and company -

Yes, you are right, we are waiting...

MTJ mentioned that he is launching a business for the first time. That is also the case with me. My business was just licensed on March 10, 2010.

I was reviewing some of my e-mails yesterday and read again one that was a response from a Christian media person who I had contacted some months ago about my business...

This is an excerpt of what he stated on May 1, 2010, "...keep doing what you're doing and in "due season" doors will open." He concluded by giving me Revelation 3:8 (KJV)
"I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name."

In August this year, the Lord sent me a client who did her first manuscript - and it was my first edit of a manuscript. The Lord told her to use my services. She stated that the Lord told her that it would "open doors for my daughter." I was so touched that He would say that...and thankful that she obeyed the Lord...

Waiting on the Lord indeed can be challenging but He makes it so worth it when we do things His way!

  7. Hi Sandra,

Oh that verse in Revelation really spoke to me just now! Incredible! I've been praying that the Lord would open doors no man can close and close doors no man can open. I had forgotten what scripture that prayer was based on. Thank you so much for sharing that. God really knows how to speak to his people — even through a blog. I tell you, this blogging has truly been a blessing to me. And I'm just getting started. Have a wonderful evening.

  8. Hi Judy,
What a privileged to meet you another 'Sista Eternal' I found you on my friend Red's blog and thought "I hear a divine connection calling" and so here I am answering the call.
I am an American now living in the UK for the past ~5years. So connecting with my 'homies' and also 'godly women homies' + 'godly woman o' color homies' makes me feel not so homesick at times. If you can feel me?
Now don't get me wrong I love my "Sista's Eternals" (my new name for sisters in the Lord) Here in Jolly 'Ol England... Nuff said.
I was supposed to be encouraging you and letting you know that I am standing with you and for your "Open Door" instead of writing my bio. :)
I hope you will pop in and add your prayer request on my blog at the top under the tab marked prayer/praise
I look forward to knowing you by the spirit and sharing your burdens as we fulfill the law of Christ together. I would also be so so so blessed if you will "Follow me as I follow Christ' on my blog.
Much Love and prayers, Soroya aka Firedancer

  9. What a great devoton. You could be speaking about me. I'm waiting on the Lord for a few things--direction with my books and mostly that my husband and I will find work that we enjoy again. He lost his job in 2007, and went back to college in Jan. It's been a rough road but God has been faithful in sustaining us.

  10. Hi Judith, That was very timely and encouraging. There are two major things I'm waiting on God for, one I've been waiting for God to fulfill for 18 years, the other I'm waiting on God to fulfill this week- the publishing of my 1st book! Yes, it takes a lot of patience and sometimes I'm good and sometimes I'm not so good. But thank God He is faithful.

It amazes me how God can answer so many of my prayers but when the next big step of faith comes, I need assurance all over again. Does anyone else feel the same way? Or how you can have such great faith in some areas and in others feel so weak in faith? Yet, He is still faithful.

I love Him and I'm so glad He loves me and acts on my behalf despite my short comings. Thank God for his Word that richly fortifies my soul.

  11. Hi Beverly,

I know exactly what you mean. God will answer many of my prayers too and when the next time comes for something big, my faith shrivels up. And like you, sometimes I'm good about waiting and sometimes I'm not. I wish you the best with your new book. And I know that 18 years of waiting is a long time. I've been waiting for some things for 12 years now. And yes, God is faithful. Have a blessed weekend.

  12. It is really true that... it's so hard to do but The Lord is telling us to be patient and trust Him always to act on our behalf.

He will surely heard our prayers and will answer it according to His will and based on His perfect plan.

It's a matter of trusting and patient...
    thanks for visiting and commenting...
    God bless...

    You are right Judy,
God alwyas listen our prayers,demands,requests---on perfect time.
And it's also true that god will listen you certainly--only the thing is to wait
    for his kindness for us.

  15. Judith,
I am waiting on God for several "small-medium" type things. But I have one "BIG" thing - the salvation of someone VERY CLOSE to me. He is a wonderful person, but is not a believer - he's not sure there's a God, and if there is, He's not relevant to his life. For a long time I felt VERY responsible - that I had to be a good testimony all the time - I felt his salvation was up to me somehow. The Lord has given me peace about this - it is HIS work. So now I pray for wisdom and discernment - when to speak, when to be silent. And I try to trust that this person's seemingly "impossible" conversion is indeed "HIM-possible!"

    GOD BLESS!

p.s. Do you prefer Judith or Judy? :)

  17. Hey Sister Judy,

The struggle I have is the stupid thoughts that enter in while waiting as I try to make sense of it all. Is God punishing me?, is it training?, am I just reaping what I've sown, etc., etc. Leaving it in God's sovereign hands is not easy for us. But your sharing through this blog seems to have made a difference. Peace and success with your site.
